Getting around El Gouna: tuk tuks, the shuttle bus, bikes and boats

Plan your trip

El Gouna is compact. Downtown, Abu Tig Marina and Fanadir Marina are only one to three kilometres apart, and most hotels are within a few minutes of one of them. Nobody needs a car here: people get around by tuk tuk, shuttle bus, bike, boat or on foot.

Tuk tuks

Tuk tuks are El Gouna's taxis: small three-wheelers for up to three or four people. Wave one down on the street or ask your hotel or restaurant to call one. Fares within town are low; agree the price before you set off.

The shuttle bus

A shuttle bus links the hotels with Downtown and the marinas. Buy a ticket before you board, at your hotel's reception or at the sales points around town; day and weekly passes are sold.

Bikes and cars

  • The roads along the lagoons are flat and quiet, and many hotels lend bicycles to their guests.
  • A car is only worth it for trips out of town: Sixt rents them in El Gouna.

On the water

The lagoons are part of the town. A lagoon trip by boat passes Downtown, the marinas, the hotels and the villas, and is a good first look at El Gouna. For the open sea, see excursions.

Walking

Downtown and Abu Tig Marina are each easy to walk around; between them, take a tuk tuk or the bus. Every place page shows what's within a ten-minute walk.
